A system module-type data center equipped with IIJ's existing technologies and actively harnessing its new technologies!
Capable of serving new data center demand as the world's digital transformation ramps up
Opened in May 2019, IIJ's Shiroi Data Center Campus in Shiroi-shi, Chiba Prefecture, is a large-scale data center designed to cope with the explosive growth in data center demand for 5G, IoT, AI, cloud services, and the like. The Shiroi Data Center Campus features 40,000 m2 of space. In response to the growing demand, we began operating a second building on the site in July 2023. We will begin operating a third building in FY2026.
Shiroi Data Center Campus is working to achieve carbon neutrality. To be specific, outside-air cooling systems are used to reduce the power consumption of air-conditioning systems, electricity derived from renewable energy sources such as solar power generation equipment installed on premises is used, and large-scale lithium-ion batteries are installed to facilitate the peak shifting of our grid power usage.
Data center operations are a 24-hour, 365-day affair, so to reduce operator workload, we are actively pursuing the automation of operations to reduce the labor required.
The Shiroi Wireless Campus has been established within the Shiroi Data Center Campus building to conduct research on advanced wireless communication technologies such as local 5G, Wi-Fi, and LoRaWAN®, which enables the facility to go beyond being just a base for the data center business and also function as a research campus.
Main applications
- Installation of equipment for the provision of IIJ's IT services (cloud, network and security services)
- Provision of services for the housing of customers' IT equipment
Main features
- Uses modular configuration to reduce construction time and cost
- Realizes energy savings from outside-air cooling systems
- Uses AI for integrated facilities/IT control
- Promotes the automation of operations
About the Shiroi Data Center Campus name
A campus is a hub for all sorts of endeavors, so the name reflects our desire to make the facility a hub for creating new value by bringing together digital data, which is growing at an explosive rate, and designing in the flexibility to handle new technologies and to address new needs and services.
